IMPORTANT UPDATE: Tee time booking

All tee time booking will now be done via our new provider, Intelligent Golf (IG), replacing our previous provider, ESP.

All links on the website have been updated and will take you through to the correct page. Members need to use their existing IG log in information to book tee times. Your previous log in information for ESP will no longer work. Once logged in to IG, Go to 'My Golf' in the main menu, then select 'Book Teetime' from the drop down menu.

If you have the IG app on your phone, you can also now book a tee time on there.

Visitors will need to create a new IG account, which they will then be able to use each time they book.

As a helping hand, we have created a short instructional video here that will guide you through how to book a tee time through the new system. Hopefully this will be of help to you all in the initial stages; but as always please do e-mail or call the club if you're having any problems.

Cainhoe Wood Ladies Vs Bedfordshire Ladies report

Nicki Croft, Jo Fletcher, Sue Sylvester, Stella Johnson and Tina Ansell-Carter were our team of five a couple of weeks back for a Ladies County Shield match against the Bedfordshire GC Ladies on the Manor, which was looking splendid and was a joy to play.

Nicki went out first and was soon ahead in her match and went to 3 up by the 9th. Continuing on with the pressure and only losing one hole on the back nine, this was an easy win for Nicki.

Jo was next off and played against our old friend Nicki Reynolds, who is now the Lady Captain at Bedfordshire, and Jo found herself 4 down at one point. With some grit and determination Jo came back to win on the 17th which was a tremendous effort. Well done Jo!

Sue on the other hand, had an opponent who was really on her game and this made it difficult for Sue to get near her, so this was a win to Bedfordshire.

Then Stella, a very determined player and took her player to the final hole, unfortunately lost it on the last putt so another win to Bedfordshire.

So we were drawing at this stage with one group to go. Come on Tina! In she came with a wry smile on her face and she’d only gone and done it, and won it on the 13th! So we won 3:2. Fantastic result ladies, well played. A rewarding match followed by a lovely afternoon tea, perfect!

Cainhoe's youngest member

We wanted to take a minute to let you know about a talented young chap called Charlie. At just four years old, Charlie is Cainhoe Wood's youngest member. He’s an avid golf fan, already listening to Rick Shiels' weekly podcast and watching as many golf videos on YouTube as he can find (and that his mummy and daddy will allow him to!)

Click here to see a video of Charlie's excellent swing, and if you want to follow his progress he even has his own Instagram account which you can see here.

We're sure you'll all agree he certainly has an eye for this game already.

Look out for this little man, as we think he could certainly be a star of the future!

Cainhoe Wood members' success

As well as a brilliant few weeks for the Three Lions, it’s also been a very successful period for some of our members, so we wanted to share some of their recent successes here for you all.

Huge congratulations goes out to Harry Boyle who won the Sonning Shootout, part of the Clutch pro tour with a score of 6 under. This was followed by an excellent 3rd place the following week in the Frilford Heath Classic with a 3 under, again part of the Clutch Tour.

Ben Loveard was in action at the South East 6 man qualifiers representing BB&O counties. He played two rounds and was 5 under in the morning and 3 under in the afternoon, so 8 under through 36 holes. The team tied for first out of 11 counties so a great result all round.

And then last, but not least, Nicki Croft and Lecy Robinson won the Hertfordshire Crown (2 day event). They now go through to a national final at Moor Park in September.

Feel free to say well done to all of our winners if you see them around the club!

To assist the kitchen and golf staff please can I ask that ALL tickets are purchased prior to Saturday as no golf can be played and no food will be served without a ticket on the day - tickets can be purchased from the pro shop.

On Thursday 3rd June, Beds and County ran their ladies summer open. The event was well organised, weather conditions were almost perfect and there  was a strong field with over 20 teams from across the local counties.

Cainhoe Wood Ladies Captain, Nicki Croft, along with Lecy Robinson, Jas Butter and Lesley Harris attended the event and came in with the winning score (on count back)!

Hopefully more to come from the ladies over the summer.

Cainhoe Wood Seniors

Following 2 away losses in May by Cainhoe Wood Seniors to Chesfield Downs and Millbrook, we played Mount Pleasant on their new 18 hole course on 2nd June.

Cainhoe Wood won the 1st and 2nd games, lost the 3rd and 4th, halved the 5th and 6th

In the final game Jim Levermore and Keith Carrington won 2 up.

Cainhoe Wood Seniors won 3, halved 2 and lost 2.

Keith Carrington played there last week on a reconnaissance mission and scored his first ever hole in one! He generously paid for a drink for both sides at the match.

Peter Hackett.

Virtual Moonwalk fundraising

On Saturday 15th May there is every chance that you may catch sight of a super hero... Our Ladies Vice Captain, Lecy Robinson, and four others (many of whom have experienced cancer themselves) will be walking 26.2 miles around the streets of Bedfordshire in their bras (dressed as super heroes) to raise money for breast cancer charities.

The ladies have taken part in the Moonwalk since 2012, which is normally held in London. Due to the pandemic this year, it will be totally different and they have had to plan their route around Bedfordshire instead for a 'virtual' mass group walk. Click here to read an article about their story on Bedford Today.

The ladies will commence their walk at 4pm on the 15th May and they would love some support on the evening. Click here to see a map of the route.

If you can spare any pennies, no matter how great or small, it would be truly appreciated. Barclays has also agreed to match donations under their covid matched funding scheme.

Re-opening after lockdown

It looks likely that the date for re-opening will be the 29th March. We are still waiting on more details and will update you as soon as we know more.

With regards to bookings, members will be able to book two weeks in advance of the opening date and visitors seven days in advance, as per our standard rules.

We will confirm the situation with competitions once we have more information around what can and can't open and how people can mix.

We can’t wait to get everyone back out on the course, but we also have to make sure that we all observe the restrictions that will inevitably be in place.

Stockwood Park Golf Club

As we're sure some of you will have heard, Stockwood Park Golf Club, near Luton, has announced it potentially faces closure. As well as being a well respected club in the area, they have been instrumental over the years in helping a lot of the talented juniors come through the local and national system. If it were to close it would be a huge loss to the area and we would like to do what we can to help.

Luke Treasure fundraising

A wonderful little boy Named Luke Treasure, who started playing golf last year at the club, recently started running with his mummy on a Saturday morning.

Luke is 7 and started running 1 mile at a time a few weeks ago, mainly to keep his mum company on the first mile of her run.

When he heard that Captain Tom had passed, he said he wanted to be like him and raise some pennies. Luke decided that he could run miles like Captain Tom walked, before the date of what would have been his next birthday.

This inspirational little man is planning on running 101 miles in 80 days supported by his mum. He has made a great start to this already with several runs already under his belt (and in these temperatures!)

If you can spare any pennies at all it would be hugely appreciated.

Handicaps & Competition Entry

Our new Intelligent Golf Handicapping and Competition system is now available to all members. The system is available through the app which you can download to your phone, or the website here (Handicaps and Competitions in the Member's Section).

The system lets you enter club competitions as well as view your new WHS handicap which is actively updated on there. You can still submit scorecards at the club, but the app gives you the ability to log your own scores and have your handicap adjusted automatically. It also keeps records of your scorecards as it asks you take a picture at the end of each round.

We will soon be adding a payment portal to the app, this will allow you to enter paid competitions and all the money and pay-outs are conducted through the system, making it safer and completely transparent. All data is reviewed by the handicap/competition secretaries so again acting as a double check system.
