We've just added talented Junior Jayden Slender to our hall of fame for winning two rounds of the Bedfordshire Junior Tour on the bounce.
Jayden won at Mowsbury on the 11th October and then followed it up with a home victory here at Cainhoe Wood a week later on the 18th October.
Well done Jayden, keep up the good work!
25th October 2020
There will be some hollow coring done this week on a few of the greens, this will mean some of the greens will be on temps whilst the work is being carried out.
We will let you know each day which greens these will be, but please expect there to be some if you are playing this week.
This work is again crucial for us to keep our program of improving the quality of the greens going through the winter.

Winter opening times
From Sunday 25th October the club will be opening from 7.15am for the duration of winter.
First tee times up until 1st November will be 7.32am, then from November 2nd onwards, from 7.56am.
Whilst it will be light before 7.56am, our greenkeepers need some time in the morning before you begin. Therefore we ask that nobody tees off before this as it will upset the essential work they need to do.
The clubhouse will continue to open until 9pm Monday - Friday and 8pm Saturday & Sunday,
We will still be open late as the range will keep its current opening hours (once the works on it are complete) and the bar will stay open, with live sport will be shown - so please feel free to make use of the facilities throughout the winter.
21st October 2020
Temporary closure of driving range
As many of you will have seen the driving range has deteriorated in condition over the past few weeks. This is due to the drainage that was installed by the developer as part of the redevelopment not being up to scratch. We have decided rather than to struggle on and not be able to offer stable hours, to have the work done ourselves which will require a short closure.
Obviously it's a shame we are having to do this and its not a decision we have taken lightly. However, we feel it's the best way to offer you a stable service in the future and hopefully reduce any ongoing downtime.
Therefore, from tomorrow (Thursday 22nd October), the range will be shut whilst the new drainage is installed. This work will take approximately 2 weeks, but we will keep you informed as we go along.
Thanks again for your patience and we look forward to welcoming you back once the work is complete.

Winter League starts this Sunday 25th October
This year’s Winter League kicks off with Round 1 on Sunday 25th October. Due to precautions against Covid-19 we will not be having a Shotgun start but all teams will instead start from HOLE 1 on the Manor course.
Tee times for Sunday can be found on a new Winter League page within the Member's Area on the website here. This will be updated each round, so please check back there or on the physical club noticeboard for future tee times.
Please pay £80 per team to Vee at the Membership reception desk on the morning where you will receive a TEAM card with your starting handicap. The competition fee covers all 7 rounds and £80 is the fee for each team – if a team has less players it is not £20 each!
Please also keep an eye out for news about how we will manage the charity raffle. Let’s make this year a success despite Covid!
Thanks for your support

Flitwick Eagles Charity Day
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the recent Eagles charity day.
It takes a team to put together an event like this and many people came along on the day to help with the logistics. A huge thank you to John, Jack and the Catering team, the clubhouse team and Marshall Mark for all you did on the day. Special thanks to all the greenkeepers, the course is looking great.
It seemed that everyone had a lot of fun on the day despite a gale blowing! Lots of people scooped raffle prizes and Andy Akroyd won the putting competition.
The winners on the day were the Choppers and the 3 kings came in close second.
Despite the weather conditions it was a full turn out and the amazing sum of £2,382.40 was raised for the Flitwick Eagles. Barclays has matched this figure so £4,764.80 is on its way over to them.
We hope to see many of you at next years event on the 10th September 2021 and if you enjoyed the day please feel free to bring some more of your friends :-)

Preferred Lies rule
Following an ongoing review of the course and using England Golf’s advice, we can announce that Cainhoe Wood Golf Club's Preferred Lies period will run from the 1 October 2020 through to 30 April 2021 (unless otherwise advised).
Preferred Lies are for closely-mown areas (fairways and green fringes only).
By following this guidance (whilst also repairing pitch marks and replacing divots) it gives both the greenkeepers and the course the best opportunity to be in tip-top condition for 2021.

• Club Championship - net (139) which was made up of 2x sub net rounds
• Divisional Championship (11/10/20) - Strokeplay for 0 to 20 handicaps and Stableford for 21+ handicaps
• Laurene Trophy (18/10/20) - 4 Man Team Strokeplay with best two scores to count
I know a lot of people have asked why there are no “drawn” competitions.
The decision was made due to the current “social bubble” requirements that people could choose who they played with and thus who was in their bubble but this will be reconsidered in 2021.
Thanks for supporting the competitions in 2020 and I look forward to sharing the 2021 competition fixtures with you over the next few months.

Updated Covid-19 regulations
In line with the Government guidelines announced yesterday, we will be making the following changes to the golf club's rules from tomorrow, Thursday 24th September.
Food and drink will be table service only moving forward. It will not be possible to access the bar directly.
Masks will be worn by all staff in the shop and bar / restaurant area.
New floor markers will be put down, making it clear where you can and can’t walk.
Please help our staff implement these new rules by being patient, courteous and respecting the fact that it’s their job to enforce them. We will all do our best to ensure you can still have a good experience within the club.
Please note that non-compliance of these rules or rudeness to our staff will not be tolerated and in those instances, you will be asked to leave. Masks must still be worn by all customers in the shop and when checking in.

Yet more competition success!
Last Sunday 13th September, Nicki Croft and Lecy Robinson played the second round of the Titleist Matchplay pairs at Knebworth. They were up against previous winners of the competition, one of whom spent a year as a pro! It was a beautiful day with Pub in the Park playing at Knebworth House, so music could be heard throughout the round. They got off to a great early start winning the first few holes taking them 2 up. The gents then levelled up. Lecy nearly scored her first ever hole in 1, and the ladies went into the back 9 one up. Nicki and Lecy played some great golf over the back 9 and the gents never managed to get ahead. Lecy finished the game on Hole 17 with a birdie on the par 5, winning 4:3. The ladies are now going into round 3 and just waiting to hear who they play... at Cainhoe Wood!

Covid-19 rules update: New 'rule of six'
Following the announcement from the Government regarding “the rule of six” we wanted to let you know what will be changing at the golf club.
The golf itself will be unchanged, so fourballs are still allowed and the few remaining tournaments will still go ahead. The main changes will be around the clubhouse where we must insist people don’t meet in groups larger than 6 and must maintain distance. This applies when outside the clubhouse as well as inside when ordering/sitting for food and drink. Staff will approach you if they see these rules being broken, so please understand it’s their job and be polite and understanding.
Groups that meet regularly please be aware that you will need to ensure you are not congregating, this includes on the tee as well as around the club. Any tournament starts will be strictly monitored and any societies will be briefed beforehand to ensure groups are kept below six.
There will also be a new one way system around the clubhouse that will be implemented via yellow arrows on the floor. Please do you best to follow this as it will help us keep people distanced. The current rules around facemasks remain in place, you must wear a facemask in the pro shop and around the clubhouse unless you’re in the bar/restaurant area.
Please all be vigilant and respectful of these new rules. Please help our staff where possible and self-govern these rules within your respective groups.

In these troubled times that is a fantastic result, so thanks to all who participated.
