Cainhoe Wood Juniors
Cainhoe Wood runs a highly successful Junior Section catering for all standards with its team players regularly enjoying success across various interclub competitions in the local area, and much further afield. Under the old title of Beadlow Manor, the team won the 2017 Junior Team Golf UK Championship, travelling to Portugal to play against some top teams from the home nations, including St Andrews, and the Section has continued to enjoy notable and more recent success (see Roll of Honour below).
Our long serving and established Junior Organiser, Gary Boyle, has a wealth of experience and proven track record (gained over the past 17 years) of identifying, supporting and developing junior golfers to whatever standard they aspire. Gary is invariably available to meet with new members and ensure integration to the Section, as appropriate, providing guidance and advice to all our active juniors. Regular Friday rollups and internal competitions, plus an extensive interclub program of events, and access to expert coaching are available to all members, and we as a club remain keen to add new junior golfers to what is already a thriving section.

Captain's Message
Hello everyone,
My name is Jayden Slender, and I’ve been a junior at Cainhoe Wood Golf Club for the past six years. The club has played a big part in my development as a golfer, so it’s a real privilege—and an honour—to now represent the junior section as your Junior Captain for 2025. I’m really excited for the year ahead and look forward to supporting all our junior members, encouraging new players to get involved, and helping to make our section as fun and welcoming as possible.
One of the best ways to get involved is by joining our Friday Night Roll-Up evenings – they’re open to all juniors, no matter your level of experience. They’re relaxed, friendly, and a great way to meet others and enjoy the game.
We have some great events planned, and I hope to see as many of you as possible out on the course. Whether you’re here to compete or just enjoy the game with friends, let’s make this a year to remember.

Junior Golf is a big priority for us at Cainhoe Wood, so we continue to offer Junior Group Lessons on Saturday afternoons with one of our PGA Professionals, Glen Kemble. In addition, PGA professional Elliott Appleby and John O’Leary are also available to provide lessons at other times if this suits you better. The group lessons remain a great place for new juniors to learn the key fundamentals of grip, swing, alignment, etc., but also to interact with one another and create new friends, as they improve. The lessons are structured so that it is open to Juniors of all ages and abilities, so everyone can get involved, with the aim of transitioning to playing on the course as soon as is appropriate. Friday Night Roll-Up
The Junior Section Friday rollup is available to all members of the Junior Section and remains a casual and fun way for all juniors to get to know each other better and create lasting friendships, as well as being a chance to practice on the course in a safe and supportive environment. From 5:00pm, the Juniors assemble on the Putting Green and go out to play up to 9 holes in various formats, often with a competitive element. Those new to the section plus the younger, less experienced golfers all get the chance to mix with the more established players and gain experience, which could be really valuable later in their golfing journeys.
(Please note: All juniors attending rollup should have contacted the Junior Organiser ahead of initial attendance to ensure they are at an appropriate standard and are compliant with our Safeguarding Policy)

Reports from the Course
The 2025 was a season of great golf with notable individual and team
achievements both within the club and across the various club
competitions in which Cainhoe Wood juniors competed. Friday rollups
continued to attract both experienced and new golfers; our four major
internal trophies had different winners, and a total of 24 players
represented the club across the 24 interclub matches that Cainhoe Wood
participated in, emphasising the strength of the section.
Our individual Junior scratch champion was Joel Platt, with Rocco Lehri
winning the handicap event at the 36-hole Junior club championships.
Josh O’Shaughnessy secured the Junior Order of Merit title (best 6 nett
scores through the season) with Euan Montgomery winning the last trophy
of the season becoming our Junior Matchplay champion for 2025. Well
done to all who took part across the events, and congratulations to the
winners.
Individual success has also been achieved away from the club too. In
Bedfordshire Schools golf our 2025 Captain Jayden Slender won the
Hollingsworth Trophy (handicap event), and Rocco Lehri won the Boys High
Handicap along with the team event (for Redborne Upper) with Sam Dunn,
whilst Martha Burr secured runners up in the Girls event. Jacob Schouten
also won at the Overstone Junior Open.
The team golf calendar has been very busy playing across Beds, Herts and
BB&O leagues, plus participation in the National JTG competition, and 2
friendlies against South Beds. Cainhoe Wood were competitive in both
Tavistock Trophy and Junior Interclub events in Bedfordshire, and also
progressed through the regional JTG event to then come third in the
Midlands Final. Nonetheless it was in both matchplay leagues (Vale and
Herts) that the juniors really excelled. The Vale league saw four wins
(Millbrook, Woburn, The Bedfordshire, Aspley Guise), one draw (Leighton
Buzzard) and one loss (Buckingham) to secure the league title (on
individual match differential) to pip the 2024 champions, The Millbrook.
This win saw the club represent the League in the Bert Yates Trophy (v
winners of Chiltern, Thames Valley & Oxfordshire leagues) only to lose out
this time by the narrowest of countback margins. The Herts league saw an
unblemished group stage (for the second season in a row) with home and
away wins v East Herts, Essendon and Brookmans Park, respectively. A loss
over a 2-leg semI-final to Bishops Stortford (who subsequently won the
Herts League Shield) saw a match up with Enfield for the Herts League Plate
and a resounding win saw the second team trophy of the season.
