Captain’s  Blog - 29/11/2022

This year has been a fantastic 12 months for the junior section and for me personally.

In August the team won the Tavistock Trophy for the 9th time in 10 events.  This means we will defend the trophy at home again next year.

Following this, the team played some great golf throughout the season which included winning the Vale League. Following this the team went on to represent the Vale League in the Bert Yates Trophy as defending champions. With home advantage the team managed to win convincingly again for the third time in a row.

The team also entered the Herts Shield which was mixture of singles and greensomes which the younger players really enjoyed. Having won the semi final against Enfield, the team stepped up to win this competition for the first time in the Club’s history.  They team played some exciting golf to defeat Essendon on a tricky Brickenden Golf Course.

For me I have really enjoyed and been very proud to Captain the team in another very successful season.I am also extremely proud of winning the Club Championship and Matchplay and was lucky enough to Captain the U18 and U16 County sides plus playing the McGregor trophy which was a great experience. With help from my team mates and support from everyone at the club and county I am very grateful to have been awarded Mens County Player of the year which was a real honour. I would encourage all the juniors at the club aim to play both county and national competitions as they are great experiences.

I would like to thank everybody that have helped me and the team this season.  Thanks to John, Gary and Andy, to Martin and the County setup and finally to my team mates and parents without which we would not have such a successful junior section.

Captain's Update - 23/05/2022

The Tavistock Trophy

The team of Jacob, Will, Ed, Jack, Jago and Owyn represented Cainhoe the latest leg of the Tavistock Trophy away to Leighton Buzzard.

Once again the lads came out on top with a winning score of 304.  Owyn 77, Ed 85 provided the two gross scores while the net scores by Jago 70 and Jack 69 completed the winning 304 total.    The team have now qualified for the final in August at Cainhoe with still the Beds and County away match to play.

The Herts League

After a 3 year break due to COVID, the juniors once again competed in a revamped version of the Hertfordshire League.    The new format of 3 singles matches and 2 Greensome pairs was very exciting to watch.   Our Greensome parings of Liam and Jaydon and Sam and Joel were relatively inexperienced but this clearly did not phase them as once again the team bonding was evident.    Liam and Jaydon took their match all the way to the last but unfortunately lost 2 down but only after fighting all the way.   Sam in his first ever match for the club, paired with Joel, played very well and came out on top, 3 up.    The more experienced singles matches whilst tight, all went our way with George and Robbie winning their matches on the last hole while Ed secured a 2 and 1 victory.

The return leg is coming up next week.

Internal Competitions

In the Cainhoe monthly stableford, Charlie Simpson was the winner with some fine golf, scoring 41 points with Ollie Clark in second on 38 point.    In the second competition of the month Charlie again scored well finishing second on 36 points just being pipped to the top spot by Archie Wooliscroft with 37 points.

Some great golf once again being played by the Cainhoe Junior Section.

Tavistock  Trophy Success yet again! - 17/04/2022

All the hard work during the winter training sessions on the range have clearly paid off after our great start to the season.

Our first Tavistock match at home to Leighton Buzzard, Beds and County & John O’Gaunt ended in a comprehensive Victory.  The team included a great mix of experience and youth, with 2 debutants in the team.  Great performances from Will, Jacob and debutant Jack Skelton meant the team won by 20 shots.  Will came in with the second gross score, while Jacob and Jack secured the best nett scores, giving a very strong team score.  The team also comprised of debutant Jago, alongside veteran Ed with 2 solid performances.

The away match at John O’Gaunt gave way to 2 more players gaining a Tavistock Trophy appearance, with Jake Plumb and Jayden Slender coming into the team.  Jake’s experience was a major factor in the team’s performance as he led the team off to secure a vital lead.  Jayden secured a very good score, following an impressive finish.  Jacob shot another amazing score, despite his handicap continuing to fall.  Once again, the team was backed up by great rounds from Ed and Will.  The team secured another big victory, with a huge, 24-shot margin to 2nd placed Bed's and County.

These 2 victories mean that Cainhoe top the table on 9 points from a possible 9 and just shows the strength of our junior section.  A great way to start to the Season!
